District 8 Toastmasters is honored to welcome Pat Johnson, DTM, PIP, as a keynote speaker at our 2026 District 8 Conference on May 16, 2026.

Pat brings global insight, decades of leadership experience, and an inspiring Toastmasters journey that reflects the very heart of our mission: empowering individuals to become more effective communicators and leaders.

A Historic Leader in Toastmasters

In 2010, Pat Johnson was elected International President of Toastmasters International at the 79th International Convention. She made history as the first Canadian woman to serve in the organization’s highest volunteer leadership role and only the fifth woman overall to hold the position at that time.

During her presidential year (2010–2011), she provided strategic leadership to a global organization serving more than 260,000 members across over 100 countries. Her focus emphasized:

  • Expanding global outreach
  • Strengthening leadership development
  • Supporting club excellence
  • Encouraging innovation in learning and growth

Her leadership continues to influence Toastmasters worldwide.

A Lifetime of Learning & Leadership

Pat joined Toastmasters in 1983 in northern Manitoba, Canada. Over more than four decades of service, she has contributed at nearly every level of the organization, including:

  • District Governor (Distinguished District 21)
  • International Director
  • International President (2010–2011)
  • Learning Master Manager for the design and rollout of the Pathways education program
  • Region Advisor and leadership mentor

Professionally, Pat built a career in adult education, executive coaching, and organizational development. She has worked with corporations, government agencies, and nonprofit organizations to strengthen communication, leadership, and strategic planning skills.

She is also the author of Building and Sustaining Vibrant and Sustainable Toastmasters Programs in Corporations, sharing practical guidance on integrating Toastmasters into workplace environments.

Why This Matters for District 8

As District 8 continues to grow, innovate, and prepare for future opportunities—including expanded collaboration and leadership development across our clubs—Pat’s perspective as a Past International President offers invaluable insight.

Her visit on May 16, 2026 will be an opportunity to:

  • Learn from a global Toastmasters leader
  • Gain perspective on organizational excellence
  • Be inspired to elevate club and district leadership
  • Celebrate the power of communication and service

This is more than a keynote. It is a moment for District 8 members to connect with the broader Toastmasters vision and renew our commitment to excellence.
