Linda Mlot joined Toastmasters at the recommendation of her brother, Karl—a Distinguished Toastmaster in California—and is grateful she did. At the time, she felt her speaking skills were becoming rusty and saw Toastmasters as a way to refresh and rebuild her confidence. The experience exceeded her expectations and even encouraged her to embrace new technology, marking her entry into the “IT generation,” though she jokingly notes she still has more to learn.
Linda became involved with the Mt. Vernon Toastmasters Club during its formation and officially joined when the club was chartered in April 2019. When the club transitioned to virtual meetings, her brother Karl also joined, having already been a member of a California club Linda had previously attended. Since joining Toastmasters, Linda has served as Vice President of Membership, President, and Secretary, and she is currently serving her first year as Area Director. She has completed the Visionary Communication Path and is actively working on the Innovative Planning and Motivational Strategies Paths. Inspired by her Toastmasters experience, Linda accepted a nomination to serve as President of her church council, a role she is now in her third year.
Now retired, Linda’s professional background is both diverse and service-oriented. She began her career teaching high school science and math, paused to raise a family, and later returned to the workforce in healthcare. Starting as a medical office secretary and biller, she advanced to medical office manager, biller, and coder, retiring when the physician she worked with also retired.
A lifelong learner, Linda holds a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry and completed additional coursework to become a high school teacher. She fulfilled the requirements for a Master’s in Science Education, pursued graduate studies in high school guidance and counseling, and later studied nursing to become a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). Outside of her leadership roles, Linda enjoys reading, spending time with family and friends, and appreciating the great outdoors.
