Helen Dotson, DTM, Past District 62 Director, VC2, has been a member of Toastmasters International since 1997, when she joined her first corporate club, Tuesday Talkers Club #5652, in Midland, Michigan. She currently serves as President of Capital City Toastmasters Club #1313356, District 8 Speakers Bureau Chair, and Vice President of Public Relations for Past Leaders United in Service (PLUS) Club #7832162 in District 26. Helen earned the prestigious Distinguished Toastmaster (DTM) designation in 2009.
Over nearly 30 years of Toastmasters service, Helen has held a wide range of club and district leadership roles. At the club level, she has served as Treasurer, Secretary, Vice President of Membership, Vice President of Education, and President for multiple clubs. Her district leadership experience includes Area Director, Division Director, Audit Committee Chair, Finance Manager, Program Quality Director, District Director (2018–2019), and Immediate Past District Director.
Helen’s service has been widely recognized. For her role as District 62 Area 15 Governor (2003–2004), she received the District 62 Area Governor of the Year Award from District Director Sue Monroe. More recently, she was named District 54 President of the Year (2023–2024) for her leadership of ADM Toastmasters Club #01481419, presented by District Director Dan Kyburz.
Highly regarded for her expertise in the art of evaluation, Helen’s favorite meeting role is Speech Evaluator. She has twice earned the title of District 62 Evaluation Speech Contest Champion (2009 and 2011) and has delivered numerous presentations sharing best practices in effective evaluation—skills that have benefited both Toastmasters members and her professional career.
When she is not actively engaged in Toastmasters, Helen enjoys reading, journaling, walking half marathons, and spending quality time with family and friends.
